Chuck Hutchison announces candidacy for OPPD Board
Bellevue, NE (January 21, 2016) – Chuck Hutchison, a 24-year Navy veteran from Bellevue, announced his candidacy for OPPD Director representing Subdivision 4. Subdivision 4 includes portions of Sarpy, Cass, Otoe, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, and Richardson Counties.
Hutchison is invested in local real estate and has served Nebraska civic organizations for 20 years. This service includes chairman of a sanitation improvement district, condo association president, church treasurer, youth ministry, and a chamber of commerce leadership program. He holds a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Nebraska and served as a nuclear engineer during his Navy submarine career.
“In my candidacy, I see an opportunity to apply my expertise to serving local communities. With OPPD’s 44% rate increase over the past 8 years, I will focus my attention on delivering low-cost, reliable power to residents, farmers, and business owners. Nebraska and OPPD have lost their cost advantage over neighboring MidAmerican Energy and other private utilities. This hurts all residents and makes Nebraska less attractive for economic development. It is time for new, innovative leadership to navigate the changing landscape of the power industry.”
“I look forward to a positive campaign, meeting OPPD’s customers, and tackling challenges.”

Manley Board of Trustees meets the first Thursday of the month in the Community Building at 7PM. The next one is this Thursday! Feb 4th!
Pillage The Village will take place on Sat., Aug 20, 2016. If you would like to be a part of the Craft/Vendor show or Flea Market this year, contact Tim Glas (515) 402-7185 or at amsoyscents@outlook.com ASAP! We will have a flea market, Craft/Vendor Show, Non-profit showcase to go along with our tractor pull, kick ball tourney, city wide garage sales etc.
The Village Trustees are investigating ways to bring money into the community due to aging roads, pumps at the sewer station (1 has already gone down and cost the town around $5,000). Suggestions are greatly appreciated.
A traffic study is under way currently on the Spur and Elm St. A 4th stop sign is being considered to slow drivers down coming into town. The Cass Co Sheriff’s Department has been asked to provide more enforcement at that corner to stop drivers who fail to stop at the stop sign going out of town (westbound) as well as when the new sign goes up to incoming vehicles (eastbound). Just a reminder that running a stop sign or failure to completely stop at a stop sign is a traffic violation.
The one and six year roads plan public hearing will be held on February 4th at 7PM. If you have any questions or want to know more information, please plan to attend.
A soup supper with desserts will be Feb 21st. Denise Swenson is organizing this fun event. Bring a soup and dessert and eat! Free admission! This will be held at the Community Building.
The Manley Community Building is for rent! Downstairs/Kitchen (up to 25 people) is $50. The whole building is $100. For more info and to schedule an event, contact Jolene Dalton, Village Clerk at the office.
If you plan to build, add to, remove, or move a structure, you must talk to Betty Meyer PRIOR to starting the project!
The Village Board of Trustees will work on a Level Payment plan for the upcoming year regarding the water bills.
During the Village Board of Trustee’s meetings a report from our Water Specialist is given. If you want to know how healthy your drinking water is, stop down and hear from Jack Faubion!
Do you know that Manley has a facebook page??? Check out all the happenings on social media!
A sign will be placed at the front of the community building/Village office this Spring.
