Did you know that ALL advertising for Pillage the Village comes from the Cass County Tourism Board??? We are extremely grateful for this grant!
An upgrade to the electrical system at the Community Center has also been approved and should be completed by the end of the month. There was also several complaints about property owners not maintaining their yards. Excessive weeds and large containers were the problems. If you have weeds that need cleaned up or a large waste container in your yard, please have it removed prior to Oct 14th to avoid further problems. If your water meter does not work, please contact the village office to notify us. If we already know about it, the water commissioner is working on a replacement.
From the Manley Village Clerk’s office…………..
Let me start with a few tidbits:
*Welcome to Bill & Cris Seyler, our new Village residents at 205 Cherry Street and to cousins Carlee Derby & Brittney Duff at 208 Broadway Street!
*Congratulations to Cheryl & Will Jones, who were in the Lofte Theater production of “The Red Velvet Cake War”. Cheryl performed on stage for the first time as “Purvis Verdeen” (You had to see the production to understand the nameJ) in addition to being in charge of Properties, being the Stage Manager (the job she is very familiar with), and being on the Set Crew. Will helped on the Set Crew. The Lofte’s next production is “Funny Money” on Oct. 15-16, 20-23, & 28-30. Check out their website (www.Lofte.com) for all the latest.
Election Day is right around the corner. Be sure to exercise your right to vote on November 8th. Take seriously this freedom that not everyone in the world has! Manley will have three positions on the Village Board of Trustees that you can cast your vote for. Because of a communication problem, the Election Commissioner did not receive the names of present Board members Mickey Dalton & Dawn Holdorf to put on the ballot. Denise Swenson will be listed on the ballot with write–in spaces for two others. Mickey & Dawn would like to serve on the Board again so they are asking you to write in their names on the ballot: Mickey Dalton & Dawn Holdorf. They thank you for your support.
We are very proud to announce that the Village of Manley has been awarded two 2016 Keep Nebraska Beautiful Environmental Awards! You may have seen the picture & article in the September 1st Plattsmouth Journal about it. The Board has been busy this past year sponsoring numerous projects to beautify our little Village. They conducted two cleanups of the roads leading into the Village (Spur 13F/Manley Road and Manley Lane), utilized recycling bins at Pillage the Village, started curbside recycling, held the Fall Village Cleanup, and received & planted new trees & flowers/plants on Village property. These were projects sponsored by your Board but it took the entire Village to make them successful, so we hope you are as proud of our little Village as the Board is! We received a 2nd PLACE plaque in the Deanie Anderson Outstanding Community-Less than 2,500 Population Division and a 1st PLACE plaque & $50 cash award in the Great American Cleanup Division. The two plaques are hanging in the Village Office. Congratulations & keep up the good work!
Along the same lines, there are many residents who do a great job keeping their property beautiful & well groomed. Some even extend their work to the Village property adjoining theirs, such as the corners of Elm & North, Locust & North, and Locust & South. I hate to mention locations because I will miss some, but you get the idea. Manley is a nice, clean village which we hope you are proud of and the Board appreciates your efforts & support in keeping it one of the nicest villages/towns in Cass County.
Pillage the Village – 2016! is now history and, once again, we had a fun & successful day! We had fun publicizing the celebration with a float in the Cass County Fair Parade the weekend before. Mr. Viking even showed up!... The actual day started with the usual delicious Pancake Breakfast put on by the Manley Volunteer Fire Department. The adult & kids’ kickball tournaments and the Craft Fair highlighted the day, with many other activities offered throughout. We tried a couple of new activities this year: the Car & Bike “Show & Shine” and the Talent Demonstrations. Both were well received and we will work to build on them next year. The kids had fun decorating cupcakes (with ‘awards’ from Jones Bros. Cupcakes) and watching the outdoor movie, Ghostbusters (the weather cooperated). THANK YOU to everyone who helped &/or supported our 2016 Village celebration! If you have any comments or suggestions, the Board would welcome your input
