Did you know that ALL advertising for Pillage the Village comes from the Cass County Tourism Board??? We are extremely grateful for this grant!
The Village Board is exploring ways to obtain grants and one way is to do a community attitude survey. This survey will help the Village obtain grants for funding several projects and we are asking for your assistance. If the surveys come your way, PLEASE fill them out and return them. The surveys ask a variety of questions to ascertain whether the village can raise the funds on their own thru the taxpayers or whether grants are available.
A casserole potluck and Bunco tourney are scheduled for Feb 26th from 4 – 7PM. Bring your best casserole and have fun! Desserts will be welcome!
Our Village Clerk, Jolene Dalton has been approved to go to Clerk school this March! She will be out of the office that week. A grant has already been secured to pay for part of it and the Board is looking into other grants to finalize the cost.
THE VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES VOTED TO PAY OFF THE FIREHOUSE LOAN SAVING THE VILLAGE $3000.00 OVER THE NEXT 6 YRS.
The Village Clerk’s office will be open on the last Saturday in February in order to
help you with registering your animals. Remember, ALL pets MUST be registered yearly.
Contact Jolene Dalton with questions regarding fees and requirements.
***We have had multiple reports of animals running around at large.
If your animal is out and about, YOU are responsible for them. A new animal ordinance is in the works in the near future. Also, if you knowingly hold an animal for ransom because they did damage to your property or other animals, that is a crime. It’s called extortion. Please, ensure your animals cannot get out of their enclosure, yard, etc.
History of Manley's Community Center and "Pillage the Village"
By: Betty Meyer - Village Board Chairperson
In 2006 Federal Regulations mandated that the Manley Public School could no longer operate, and the ownership of the property would be absorbed by the Weeping Water School District. Weeping Water School District had no use for the property other than selling it for re-development. Also, the Weeping Water School Board felt that it would be a valuable and historical property for the Village of Manley and therefore offered to lease the property to Manley with the option to purchase. It was agreed that Manley would pay $350.00 per month until the $44,000, with no interest, that was still owed on the property from improvements made by the Manley School Board, while it was an active school, would be paid.
On September 15, 2008 Village of of Manley signed an agreement with the Weeping Water School for the purchase of the old Manley School Building and Property. The Village Board also agreed that no tax money would be used to pay for the upkeep and improvements of the property. Manley held a fund raising celebration in September of 2008 which also marked Manley's 125th year. The following year Manley's "Annual Pillage The Village Fund Raiser" was born. Each year we strive to build the event into something that everyone can enjoy and also be a part of helping to maintain and improve the facilities that have grown into a beautiful Park and Community Center for everyone from the entire surrounding area to enjoy.
Along with our Fund Raisers we have been supported through Cass County Tourism Grants, Berniece Hopper Grants, Keep Cass County Beautiful, miscellaneous Grants for trees, the "Welcome To Manley" sign donated by Brad and Colleen Harm and all of the people that have donated their time and money for Manley's projects.
I hope that you will all recognize our efforts and join us for our 10th year of fund raising to keep Manley growing as a wonderful place to live.
